#FridayFrivolity -- Olympics Edition!! 1996 Atlanta Games Flashback....

Hello Friday and hello friends!

I have had an exhausting but very fulfilling week, and I'm jotting off my Friday Frivolity super last minute... but I'm still so glad to see you all!

Our theme at #FridayFrivolity this week is the Olympics... I bet you can't guess why!  ;P

What I have to share isn't funny but it IS near and dear to my heart....

In 1996 the Olympics were held in Atlanta, my childhood home city.  We were excited and looking forward to it for YEARS beforehand!  The energy that summer was so palpable, and we had the TV on constantly, since all the local channels were pretty much showing non-stop Olympics, broadcasted live.

Then there was this moment.

Twelve year old me had never been so inspired by another young person.

(I teared up watching that clip, twenty years later!)

That is, by far, the most powerful Olympics memory I have.

I hope everyone is enjoying the games so far!  And I promise to be funny again next week.   ;P

Now on to the link-up! :D

  2. I'm not much of a summer Olympics type of girl, but my Hubby is. He has it on all the time!

I've missed this party the last couple of weeks. Camping and the fair were fun, but it's nice to get back to the routine. :)

  4. That was a great moment. Since I am "a bit" older than you, the most memorable moment for me was Muhammed Ali lighting the Olympic torch. I am not old enough to have seen him fight in his prime, but I used to be a pretty big boxing fan and to see that loquacious giant trapped in his body but still smiling... Okay, I am about to cry again.

    1. That moment was also amazing! My dad is an RN, and for a while worked on the "VIP floor" at a hospital in Atl... he had several celebrity patients, including Muhammed Ali. He is such an amazing man! He was so warm and personable, even though he was in the hospital and things couldn't have been easy -- my dad gets sniffly talking about those memories. :)

    1. Me too! Even though I totally flunked out of gymnastics when I was 6... ahahaha! My inability to do anything remotely that athletic adds to my appreciation of the whole thing I think. :P

  7. I was older than 12 and my daughter was four months old during the 1996 Olympics. I remember that big time.

I posted a visit I took to the home of the 1932 and 1984 games.

  10. Hey gorgeous girls! I thought I'd do a search on my previous posts and found 2 from the last Olympics in London. One post is me taking a walk down Olympic memory lane and the other is a recipe for White Oreo Strawberry Cupcakes. Oreo released a White Oreo here in Australia in time for the last Olympics. Considering Oreo is an American cookie and company I just can't help laugh at the irony. Thanks for the party girls! (Oh and the cupcakes were good. Can't say much for Australia's performance in London. Oh, I'm just kidding. I am a proud Aussie! lol)
